Digital application prototype created for 21Grams' D&AD New Blood brief.
EyeSmart, where healthy habits meet 20/20 vision
Keep your vision clear for the good times
The Brief: Find a creative way to inspire people to change their digital habits and raise awareness about the rise in rates of myopia.
Insights: What is the cause, need, and solution?
Target Audience: Younger generation of device users(think Gen Z and millenials)
Before brainstorming possible ideas, I had to ask questions first and conduct research to inform design ideas. I centered my research around three big questions:
1. What are the causes of myopia?
2. Why is there a need to raise awareness about myopia?
3. What are solutions to target increasing rates of myopia?

This included looking at studies, articles, and current solutions(ie. existing apps targeted towards combatting myopia)

After gathering research I also had to consider the following:
The issue is not as simple as people spending a lot of time looking at their screens, but the potential for habits to form because of this lengthy screen time.
Many people use their devices as a means to “detox” or destress from their productive environments, so completely removing devices from the equation has the potential to cause pushback or easily broken habits.
Mind Mapping
After gathering my research I start mind mapping the problem, solutions, and proposed features for this application.

Outlining the problem and the solution at it's basic level

Listing out the features of the app

Brainstorming
With my research organized, I started a visual brainstorm to set a consistent guide for the mockup.
Final Mockup
With my research outlined, a style guide, and a mind map, I set out to build the mock up.
